Valerie...Walmart & file folders...would this help out? Anyone else, feel free to read...

I went to Walmart today. They had a pack of 36 colored file folders for $4.54. I know it's still close to $5.00 but at least you get 36 and not 24. The pack only had three colors (blue, yellow & red). I know it's not the greatest but at least you get a little bit more in the pack.

I struggled with getting them or heading over to Officemax for the $11-13 pack with 5 colors. I opted not to go because I would have to burn gas just to get over there (rural area around here).

I ended up getting a pack of white card stock $5ish, colored card stock $3.88, 2 pack of 120 colored paper $3.43 each. So, I spent roughly $16. Gosh, I didn't realize that since I had other stuff in the cart.

I figured that I would stock up on the different colors and card stock to "dress up" the manila. I plan on using the colored card stock as extensions (sp?), so when we open the front manila folder, we'll see the red/blue/yellow card stock with mini books. This concept of utilizing colored card stock was my "cheat/substitute" for colored file folders. I don't know...I'm just reaching for straws at being creative.

This was a very hard decision (I'm an indecisive shoppers!) for me since I have the thinking that colored file folders mean better...which does not necessarily mean so..right?

I thought I'd try something different.

In Him,
Tasha

Tasha,

Thanks for posting the exact prices, I know that will help others with they're decisions on what to purchase too!

I was just at Target yesterday, and I say that they had a pack of colored folders for a bit cheaper then Walmart (but I was thinking that Walmart only had a 24 pack.....so now I'm not sure who's cheaper!)

Lol, I should just call them all up or go look online to see who's got the best deal. Sometimes I even call before going down there.....I've packed the kids up and drove to Walmart and had them be out of every kind of paper I was after! What a bummer that was!

Anyways, I am like you....I don't like to spend extra money, but I want the children to be engaged too, and you could save the colored folders for times when you have lapbook that might need to be more festive.....like red or green for Christmas, or Yellow for a study on the sun or something. Colored folders definitly doesn't mean better, it's all about what's inside and the creative ways you teach your child the concepts.

In Christ,

Valerie

I'm interested to see what Target has now. Yes, I've learned to call first before making the trip...it can be such a let down.

I will probably get the colored file folder shortly. I'll just take baby steps in buying our supplies. Although, I can't wait. LOL.

Just chiming in, but sometimes I've bought a little pack of scrapbook paper at the dollar tree in our town (6 sheets for $1), and just glued it to the inside of a plain manilla file folder, and added our mini-books, pocket folders, etc onto the pretty paper. It adds more interest and depth. They have an ever changing variety, so it doesn't always work, but worth checking out to make the inside more festive or to go with a theme.

Just one more idea to add to your list :)

Hum, the dollar tree, I usually have to stay out of there like Walmart LOL. I'm going over that way today so I can check it out.

Thanks for the heads up.

Also, to add to the where to shop for colored folders, you can buy 100 smead pastel folders at SamsClub for $9.47, if you are a shopper there. Deb
