Hi Valerie,

I noticed that you are using LHFHG with your 4 yo. I am currently using Little Hands to Heaven with my dd. She will turn 3 in July which means she will be on the young end of each year of age as the school year begins each time around. Hannah Grace is loving LHTH and I want to continue wit HOD. I am looking at possibly starting LHFHG not this coming school year but the next. I noticed that you are mainly using the history and the science. Could you share with me how you child is doing with this, and was s/he on the young side, middle, or late 4 yo when you began. At this moment I have plans to use LHFHG as is with all of Carrie's suggestions.

I wanted to say that I love this site and I wish that it had more traffic. You did a great job!!!

Thanks much,
Susie ~

Thanks Susie, for all your kind words! I too hope that the traffic will pick up as the site grows! I have a lot to add to it as well, so maybe as that happens too, we'll see more participation!

As far as LHFHG, we started this in September, when my daughter was 4 1/2. She is what I think to be an average child, maybe a little more. But some of the stuff was a little too easy, like the math books, and the recommended math activities........ but the History books were not as easy.

by the way, these are the resources we've been using http://christianpreschoolprintables.com/blog1/2007/10/30/our-homesc...

We haven't gotten into the History Stories for Children book as much as I thought, and she's not too interested in it either, it's a bit more like a text book without lots of pictures and such :) I hope to use that more this year.

History for Little Pilgrims is a cute book, and has some great pictures and information in it! We use this one the most, but a lot of the information inside repeats the bible story and can get a bit daunting. We like to read directly from the bible, and this book seems to be set up to expand on the bible reading, but it repeats a lot of the story, and my kids are like......a little bored cause it's like we're reading the story twice.....:) But I like it because it's got nice vocabulary words you can learn for history, and expands their knowledge of the Bible being the truth!

Science-----The World God made is a nice book, but it's sooo jumpy for me.....like jumps from one topic to the next without going any deeper. (perhaps it's so the parent can go deeper....) but I'm not to thrilled with this book. So we've been trying to add more science information into our Lapbooks, (for example.....we're learning color theory alongside our Rainbow Lapbook) this month.

Now, If I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't have purchased The World God Made (only because it's so jumpy and alot of that stuff she already knows), and I might not have purchased History Stories for Little Children......it's just not that fun of a book :(.

Little Hearts for His Glory Curriculum is AWESOME! In general its a great guideline for teaching your children! I love it because my son participates right along side us, doing many of the games and activities, and even learning the bible verses! (he's 2) Obviously he takes a bit longer, but it's worth it to have him learning right alongside her, and only using one curriclum (I do print up different worksheets and coloring for him though!)

We really adapt it to fit our needs, we do a lot of lapbook learning, and sometimes our LHFHG routine gets put on hold a bit!

Hope that helps a bit? I sort of got to rambling didn't I....let me know if you have anymore questions, I promise not to talk so much next time :)

Blessings,

Valerie

Thanks for your reply, Valerie! And I love long responses as they really do answer my questions. :o) I have looked at samples all over the internet of the different resources that are suggested in Lil Hearts and so far I really like them, but of course there is nothing like having it in your hands. I am really excited though as I found someone who sold me the better part of the set with the guide for $65! I will have it in my hands to devour in maybe a week. I am usually a tweaker, but I am hoping that Little Hearts will fit us like a glove. Here is to hoping! Haha! All I will be missing is the phonics and Hide Em In Your Heart. Oh and Early Bird 1a. Just by hearing what you have said of your experience with your child it seems that for Hannah to start at 4 would probably not be unreasonable. I pretty much consider her average. She will turn 3 in 3 mos. She can almost count to 10 by herself. She knows most of her letters and sounds and only ocassionally gets confused. She knows her basic shapes and colors, and loves to be read to. I am excited about HOD and I thank you for your response!!

Hi, I love your web site! I found it when searching for Sunday school ideas for 4-5s. Thank you for all the inspiring ideas. I also use them when working with a small group of special needs adults. GLT
